BRYAN
CHENG

CELLIST

"Bryan Cheng is an outstanding young artist...we sought not just a performer with a solid technique, but also somebody who had something to say about the music and a real connection with the audience. Bryan impressed on every level.”

NEWS

A month filled with music, as Bryan Cheng kicked off the month of May performing Johannes Brahms’ Trio for Viola, Cello and Piano in A minor Op. 114, alongside violist Natalie Loughran and pianist Jérémie Moreau on the 1st of May at the Casals Forum in Kronberg. His musical journey continues at Switzerland's Week-End Musical de Pully, where as Artist-in-Residence 2024, he is performing Friedrich Gulda’s Concerto for Cello and Wind Orchestra alongside the HEMU Wind Orchestra Lausanne under conductor Raphaël Jousse on the 4th of May, followed by a CelloFellos recital. Bryan Cheng and fellow cellist Leonard Disselhorst present a multifaceted program encompassing works by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Astor Piazzolla, Béla Bartók, and others. Their "Global Grooves“ entitled program ranges from traditional Romanian folk dances to Ragtime, Swing, and Tango, extending to newly composed contemporary pop. On the 5th of May, Bryan and his sister Silvie perform a recital in the context of the same residency, presenting works by Sibelius, Grieg, Chopin and Dinuk Wijeratne as Cheng² Duo. The month of May continues at the Casals Forum in Kronberg, where Bryan Cheng performs „November 19, 1828“ for string trio and piano by John Harbison alongside Gidon Kremer, Katie Liu and Julius Asal on the 11th of May, Robert Schumann’s Piano Trio No. 3 alongside Sir András Schiff and Sarah Jégou-Sageman on the 15th of May, and Ernst Von Dohnányi’s Piano Quintet No. 1 in c minor op. 1 together with violinists Oliver Neubauer and Evan Johanson, violist Edgar Francis, and pianist Enrico Pace on the 19th of May. All of these performances take place in the frames of the Chamber Music Connects the World Festival of the Kronberg Academy.

Portrait, Cheng² Duo's latest album, is nominated for The JUNO Awards 2024 in the categories “Classical Album of the Year, Small Ensemble” and “Classical Composition of the Year” for the title track, “Portrait of an Imaginary Sibling” by Dinuk Wijeratne!

After a European tour de force with concerts and recitals in Romania, the UK and Switzerland that marked the month of January, in February Bryan and Silvie Cheng embark on an Indian voyage, where Cheng² Duo will perform two recitals in Mumbai and Pune, presenting works by Debussy, Chopin, Wijeratne, Bruch and Piazzolla.

On the 16th of February, Bryan Cheng will also make his debut with the Symphony Orchestra of India at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Mumbai, performing Elgar’s Cello Concerto under the direction of Martyn Brabbins.
